In old Recovery CD, it has hdparm. New version is gone.
In the command prompt, I use hdparm -y /dev/sdx (change x with the drive lettter) to stop usb HDD motor after umount HDD. It is more safety than motor is running to unplug HDD from computer
hdparm can do secure erase SSD. Each time before I restoring image to SSD I will revive SSD back to the top speed by using 2 lines hdparm.
